Vick and Favre: Can they Both Return to Greatness

Posted by Factorback at 22nd July, 2009

As NFL camp is on the horizon (football is almost here!!!), there are plenty of stories around the league worth noting.  Two more interesting events happening are surrounding two quarterbacks, with great talent, going in opposite directions.  One is on his way out.  The other is trying to make his way back in.  If you haven’t guessed by now, we’re talking about Brett Favre and Michael Vick.  Two quarterbacks that were at one point both icons in the league for the skill sets they brought to the game.  Now they find themselves making headlines for the wrong reasons (Vick obviously moreso than Favre).  The common question around those two is, should either play in the NFL this season?

NFL Preview: AFC South

Posted by Splash Gordon at 20th July, 2009

The AFC South is home to the Indianapolis colts, who are almost a sure bet to make the playoffs each year, thanks to their high-octane, mechanized offense.  While, the Colts are the team that typically represents the division, the Tennessee Titans had their best season since 2000 and the Texans are on the rise, poised to have their first winning season since their inaugural campaign in 2002.  The Jacksonville Jaguars have had seasons alternating between surprisingly good and disappointingly bad, but are unofficially in rebuilding mode.

NFL Preview: AFC North

Posted by Splash Gordon at 16th July, 2009

The AFC North is a funny division, which seriously lacks parity. It is home to the Sixburgh Steelers who are one of the most storied franchises in the league. They have set the standard for Super Bowl titles and AFC Championship Game wins, winning two NFL championship games over the past four years. It is also home to the Ravens, who returned football to Baltimore in 1996, earning some hardware just four years later. If nothing else, the Bengals and Browns have strong chins, but few answers to the beatings they have taken in recent memory. It has not always been doom and gloom, though. The Bengals appeared in two Super Bowls over two decades ago, two more than the Browns, but failed to win either.

NFL Preview: AFC East

Posted by Splash Gordon at 14th July, 2009

How refreshing.  The AFC East was deservingly (some might say surprisingly) one of the divisions that was able to attract a great deal of attention from the media and football fans alike.  The Patriots’ five-year division winning streak was snapped like an ACL, the Wildcat reached puberty, that grey haired diva sported a different shade of green (after an extended version of his classic “will I or won’t I” publicity stunt), and America felt a faint pulse of life up in Buffalo.  Though the division had one of the highest winning percentages in the league at .594, only one team made the playoffs, but made barely any noise.
