NBA Rumors: Miami Ready to Contend?

Posted by Factorback at 21st July, 2009

Sitting in this dead period of the sports world (not even Baseball has heated up for the playoffs) I find myself constantly sifting through NBA material looking for any hinkering of a rumor about a big deal that’s about to happen.  The latest on that front appears to be two potential moves, both involving the Miami Heat.  As a Miami native and a loyal Heat fan, I can’t help but want to talk about it.  Here’s the potential moves:

Tackling Controversy: Part III – NBA All Star Game

Posted by Factorback at 17th July, 2009

As we arrive at the final part of my mini series on all star games, we take a look at my favorite, (because basketball is my favorite sport), the NBA All Star Game.  Now as an event overall, I feel that the NBA All Star Weekend has the most to offer.  Some of the players still need to buy into it more, like in the HORSE event, I’d like to see some ridiculous shots hit by the players, not routine jumpers.  Overall, with the celebrity game, Rookie/Sophomore game, HORSE game, Skills challenge, Three Point shootout, Dunk contest, and the All Star Game itself, this weekend has the most to offer.  But anyways, lets take a look, now, at the logistics of the game itself:

Crawford’s Dunk on Lebron Video Confiscated…..Really?!

Posted by Factorback at 9th July, 2009

As most of you probably know, during an after hours pick up game at Lebron James’ Skills Academy Monday Night, Xavier University’s Jordan Crawford put a monster dunk on Lebron James (according to people there it was nasty, and, its kind of fitting that a guy named Jordan dunked on Lebron).  Lebron James called over a Nike Representative after the game and they talked for a minute.  The Nike Rep then went straigt to two media people recording the pickup game and confiscated their tapes.

NBA Free Agency: Off and Running (UPDATED…..again)

Posted by Factorback at 3rd July, 2009

July has arrived and free agency in the NBA is already off and running. Major moves have been happening and that marks quite a busy off-season. Some of the notable signings have been Ron Artest to the Lakers, Marcin Gortat to the Mavericks, Trevor Ariza to the Rockets, Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon to the Pistons, Hedo Turkoglu to the Raptors, Rasheed Wallace to the Celtics, and (in trade) Zach Randolph to the Grizzlies and Quinten Richardson to the Clippers. Another possible signing that could happen is Allen Iverson with the Heat. Here are my thoughts on these big transactions that are happening.

Outside the Box: Hedo and Kidd

Posted by SharpShooter at 2nd July, 2009

With free agency heating up, contenders are looking for one (or more) piece(s) to the championship puzzle. I by no means believe I have the answer to such a fickle riddle, but I can offer a fresh look at how to utilize two players I particularly enjoy watching.

The Wizards are the Best Team in the East

At least according to Caron Butler. The Wizards’ best player and crab dribble adviser recently came out taking a shot at the rest of the Eastern Conference:

NBA: Major Moves – Good or Bad?

Posted by Factorback at 2nd July, 2009

In the days leading up to the draft, there were three major trades each of them involved big names changing teams. There were also two minor trades that involved some semi-big names moving. First, San Antonio acquired Richard Jefferson from Milwaukee for Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto, and Kurt Thomas. Second, Golden State traded Jamal Crawford to Atlanta for Acie Law and Speedy Claxton. Third, the Wizards acquired Mike Miller and Randy Foye from Minnesota in exchange for the 5th pick in the NBA draft, Etan Thomas, Darius Songalia, and Oleksiy Pecherov. Fourth, Orlando traded Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston, and Tony Battie to the Nets for Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson. And lastly, Phoenix sent Shaq to Cleveland for Ben Wallace and Sasah Pavlolic. Here is a closer look at those trades and we’ll discuss whether or not each team got an even deal.

NBA Draft Diary – 2009

Posted by Dr. McNuggettron at 2nd July, 2009

7:24 – All right, time to get settled in. Subway in hand, taking my usual spot on the couch with Andy on the other one. The pregame show (is there a point to this?) was largely uneventful, minus a pretty entertaining interview with a mildly uncomfortable Ricky Rubio. His highlight reels showed him doing some Harlem Globetrotter shit to a bunch of slow white guys in Europe, which doesn’t exactly instill massive confidence. He looked great in the Olympics though, so whoever gets him should be fine. Also his future team will corner the market for 15 year old girls who mistakenly buy a t-shirt thinking he’s a Jonas brother.

NBA Draft: More Thoughts

Posted by Factorback at 2nd July, 2009

After looking through the draft and the surrounding trades that have taken place, I try to make sense of it all. Most stuff is pretty clear, but I’m still scratching my head over some things. Here are some of my closing thoughts on this year’s draft.
