This segment of the website is devoted to giving you some quick thoughts about the music I’ve been listening to lately. Right now, I have been into a lot of hip hop so if you’re into that, you’ll enjoy this segment. First up, Outkast’s sophomore effort ATLiens.
This album should go down as one of the greats in terms of lyrical content. Big Boi and Andre 3000 cover a whole range of topics from sex to cocaine to family. Told in their unique story telling ability, they bring a steady dosage of laid back beats over very tricky rhyme schemes.
Album Strength
Plain and simple, lyrics. The rhyme schemes that take place on every track are absolute fire. The content that is addressed proves just as valuable. The track with the best lyrical output would definitely be Elevators (Me and You). Andre and Big Boi both lay down great verses about how Outkast came to be, and how they may appear to have success, but in the end, its still a week to week job. Andre has a back and forth with himself in the third verse that is rapped beautifully.
Album’s Weakness
Beat selection. This is the only album produced by the duo that has lacked musical variety. It was apparent that the focal point of this album was the content of their raps and make no mistake, that made it a definite win. However, the selection of beats almost sounded repetive when listening to the album straight through.
Best Song – Wheelz of Steel
Worst Song – Ova da Woodz
